PRESS RELEASE YFOSS AS
Sauda, Norway — 04 March 2026 — Terakraft’s journey moves onward thanks to the people who make it possible. At the forefront of innovation, what keeps us on course is values, leadership, and competence. We are proud to announce that Asbjørn Birkeland has joined Terakraft’s leadership team — a key pillar for securing quality, control, and deep engagement as we scale world-class high-density data center operations in Sauda.
Asbjørn brings proven leadership and operational excellence from the North Sea oil and gas sector, where reliability, 24/7 readiness, robust control systems, disciplined routines, and a strong safety culture are non-negotiable. Those same principles are essential to data center operations: critical electrical and process systems that must run continuously, supported by preventive maintenance and precise execution.
But this is about more than infrastructure. It’s about opportunity.
Terakraft aims to help spark a new local value chain in Sauda, Norway and the wider Nordics — creating skilled jobs, building long-term competence, and inspiring young people to see that the future can be built right here, in our communities.
Asbjørn Birkeland commented: “I came across the job posting and immediately recognized it as an exciting opportunity. The position offers the chance to contribute to the development of a new industry in Sauda, which was a significant motivation for me. Data center operations are built on many of the same principles as the North Sea: process and electrical systems that must remain operational around the clock. This requires robust control systems, well-established routines, and consistent execution of preventive maintenance. Furthermore, the strong safety culture from the offshore sector is highly transferable to this industry.
My goal is for Terakraft to become a positive contributor to the business community in Sauda. Substantial investments have already been made in Hellandsbygd, and much of the work so far has been carried out by local suppliers. This demonstrates that the expertise found in Sauda is highly relevant to the data center industry — and I intend to continue promoting the use of local suppliers to the greatest possible extent during the operational phase of the facility.
In the context of Sauda, this will become a relatively large company, likely generating around 20 direct and indirect jobs, creating several attractive opportunities across different disciplines. Terakraft has shown that it delivers on its commitments in Sauda, despite challenges such as Covid and the energy crisis. These factors have contributed to some delays, but we are now beginning to see the outlines of something very promising at Station 1 in Hellandsbygd. At present, around 60 people are involved in the construction of the data center, the majority of whom come from local companies.
There is also significant potential for further development and expansion in the future. Sauda needs investment and job creation to meet current and upcoming challenges. It is therefore encouraging that new industries and investors choose to direct their resources toward building business in Sauda. The signals I have received suggest that the company is prepared to invest even more locally, which I greatly appreciate. This is an exciting development, and I look forward to once again contributing to Sauda’s growth.”
With Asbjørn on board, Terakraft AI reinforces what matters most: a safety-first culture, disciplined execution, and teams built on trust. This is how Norway has mastered complex industries before — and how we will build the next one: locally rooted, globally competitive, and made to last.
